Aww, mama. The mother of the bride can play such a significant role in a wedding day. She is not just a guest of honor; she is a crucial part of the celebration. She knows that eyes will be on her little girl, but also on her as well. But with all of the chaos that can (potentially) occur on the wedding day, the mother of the bride can often the glue that holds everything (and everyone) together.

Now, think about it from the moment of the proposal. The mother of the bride is often the first person the bride turns to when she needs advice or guidance. She is the one who has been there for the bride throughout her life (assumingely) and knows her better than anyone else. She is an essential part of the bride’s emotional support system and helps her stay calm and grounded during the wedding planning process. She is there to pray with the bride but also pray for the future married couple and the success of their marriage.

And as her daughter begins to plan the wedding, the mother of the bride usually assists by helping find vendors, touring wedding venues, picking out the wedding dress or outfit, and even contributing financially to the many wedding vendors that are necessary.

But on the wedding day, the mother of the bride plays a significant role in the ceremony. She is usually the last person to leave the bride’s side before she walks down the aisle. The mother of the bride is sometimes responsible for assisting the bride as she gets ready, which can mean helping her into her wedding gown or outfit, placing the veil in her hair, and putting the bride’s shoes on her feet. Mama may also help with putting lotion of her baby’s legs if she failed to do so earlier in the day.

The mother of the bride is also an essential part of the reception. She is usually seen mingling with guests and making sure they are having a good time. She is usually the one who gives a speech, welcoming the guests and thanking them for coming. She may also dance with her daughter in lieu of a father-daughter dance, especially if her dad is not present.

Now, this is an ideal situation and we are aware that not every mother-daughter relationship is as positive and supportive. In those scenarios, the mother of the bride may be just another guest, if present at all.

Overall, the mother of the bride is a crucial part of a wedding day. She is responsible for helping the bride with the wedding planning process and also there to support her daughter in whatever capacity on the actual wedding day. The mother of the bride is an integral part of the emotional support system for the bride and plays a significant role in the ceremony and reception. The mother of the bride deserves to be recognized and celebrated for all that she does to help her daughter down the aisle and make the wedding day a success.
